Light-Filled Cottage Extension in Mousehole Using VEKA’s OMNIA System
When it comes to home improvement, it’s not just about the final result—it’s about the story behind it. For one homeowner in Mousehole, the goal was to create a light-filled, practical extension that enhanced the beauty and functionality of her traditional cottage.
Working with Philip Whear Windows & Conservatories, that goal became a reality with VEKA’s innovative OMNIA flush window and door system.

The brief
More space and light for a traditional Mousehole cottage
Set against Mousehole’s winding lanes and sea views, this project was about blending old-world character with modern performance. The homeowner wanted a usable extension that served a practical purpose while flooding the interior with natural light.
Maintaining the character of the home while improving how the space could be used was at the forefront of every decision. From the initial consultation through to completion, the entire project was managed by the Philip Whear team, including the masonry work alongside our core expertise in windows and doors.

The OMNIA solution
Double-flush performance with clean, balanced lines
VEKA’s OMNIA system uses a double-flush, double-rebated profile. It is flush on both the outside and inside, providing a symmetrical finish that suits modern and traditional homes.
In Mousehole, where cottages are often compact and full of character, OMNIA’s clean lines helped the extension feel as though it had always belonged to the house. It provided a balance of heritage styling and modern performance.
Why OMNIA suited the project
- Slim sightlines maximised the amount of light entering a home where daylight can be limited.
- A project-specific U-value of 1.1 W/m²K helped the new space retain heat efficiently.
- PAS 24 accreditation gave the homeowner reassurance about security.
- Authentic detailing respected the character of this heritage-rich location.

Made and finished in Cornwall
A personal finish, right down to the colour
Once the OMNIA frames were manufactured at our Redruth factory, they were finished in our on-site spray booth in a custom paint colour chosen by the customer. This bespoke finish helped the new extension feel personal and well integrated with the cottage.
Our in-house spraying capability enabled us to control the quality and precision of the finish while giving the customer freedom over the colour. OMNIA can suit classic creams, heritage greens and bold contemporary shades.

A full-service installation
Managed from first consultation to finishing touches
The Mousehole project was managed under one roof, from the initial planning and consultation through masonry, installation and finishing. This provided a smooth process and clear communication, which was especially important given the tight access and traditional construction of the cottage.
Our hands-on approach also allowed the team to make quick, thoughtful adjustments where needed—something that is often crucial when working with older buildings.
